The 2018 World Literacy Council Awards are now open for nominations. The previous awards at the 2015-2016 at the World Literacy Summit in Melbourne were awarded as follows:
The award for the most Improved Country for Literacy went to Burundi.
The award for the Literacy NGO went to Pratham Deli
The award for the changemaker for the year went to Dr. Helen Inyega from Kenya
And the award for the Indigenous Literacy Leadership went to Steve Johnson from Australia.
In 2018 there will be a new Flagship award. The Albert Schweitzer Medal and Lectureship. This prestigious award will be for services to the world in the area of literacy and health. As well as the medal, there is a cash prize and a lectureship. The opportunity to deliver a lecture at Manchester College, Oxford University (this was the College that Albert Schweitzer lectured at when visiting in Oxford in the 1920’s & 1930’s)
