The winners of the 2023 World Literacy Council Awards are:

  • The winner of the World Literacy Council award for a Significant Contribution by an Individual is Alain Capo Chichi from the Ivory coast, who founded a local smart phone brand focusing on assisting people to read through technology.
  • The winner of the World Literacy Council Award for Research is Dr Nadine Gaab (USA). Nadine has been researching on typical and atypical reading development for the last twenty years and has published over one hundred academic papers.
  • The winner of the World Literacy Council Award for a Significant Contribution by an Organisation is Dollar General Literacy Foundation. Based in Tennessee, Dollar General Literacy supports reading and literacy for underprivileged children.
  • The winner of the World Literacy Council Award for a Significant Contribution by a Younger Person is Stacey Fru. Stacey is a multi-award winning bestselling author, recognised as a child prodigy and wrote her first book at the age of seven without help from her parents.
  • The winner of the World Literacy Council Award for a Significant Contribution by a Nation is Cambodia. The Government of Cambodia has been instrumental in introducing a wide range of programmes to improve literacy skills particularly in remote and underprivileged populations.
